Sri Purushothaman Temple is situated in Thirukkarambanoor, Trichy, TamilNadu. This temple is one of the 108 Divya Desam. This temple is also known as Uttamar Kovil and Bhikshandar Kovil. We can get the Dharshan of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu(Uttamar or Purushothamar), Lord Shiva(Bhikshandar) with their pairs Saraswati, Lakshmi(Poornavalli), Parvati(Soundarya Parvati) in same mantapa.The temple is believed to have been initially constructed by Janaka, the king of Janakapuri and the father of the goddess Sita. This temple have shrine of Dasara Lingam who built and worshipped by Janaka Maharaja. Afterthat, The temple is built in 8th century by the Medieval Cholas, later contributions from Vijayanagara kings and Madurai Nayaks.
Temple History: Lord Vishnu raised as a Kadamba tree in the place. Brahma worshipped him with thirumanjanam (ablution). Vishnu was satisfied with the devotion of Brahma and gave a boon to Brahma to have a shrine in this place.
Lord Shiva cut a 5th head of Brahma. That head pasted on shiva finger and became like begger plate. So shiva wanted to get rid sin and went on a pilgrimage like as Bhikshandar. When he came into this temple, Vishnu requested his consort Lakshmi to give alms to Shiva. Shiva's plate was filled by the alms and Lakshmi came to be known as Poornavalli Thayar. Perumal appeared to Bhikshandar(Lord Shiva).
