Sri Panchalingeshwara Temple, Begur, Bengaluru, Karnataka
The Panchalingeshwara Temple, located in Begur, Bengaluru, is also known as the Nageshvara or Naganatheshvara Temple. The temple features four entrance gopuras with a unique big arch. It is named Panchalingeshwara due to the presence of five lingas.
Two of the shiva linga shrines, Nageshvara and Nageshvarasvami, were built during the rule of Western Ganga Dynasty Kings Nitimarga I and Ereyappa Nitimarga II. The remaining shrines, Choleshwara, Kali Kamadeshwara, and Karaneshwara, were constructed by the Chola Dynasty, Hoysala Dynasty, and Vijayanagara Empire respectively over the region.
An old Kannada inscription, dating back to around 890, describes a 'Bengaluru war.' This inscription provides the earliest evidence of the existence of a place called Bengaluru.
