108 Divya Desam - Azhagiya Manavalan Perumal Temple is situated in Thirukozhi or Uraiyur. This temple is also known as Nachiyar Koil. The temple is one of the few divyadesams where the goddess has prominence over Vishnu. During all festive occasions, the first rights are reserved for Nachiyar, who moves ahead, while the god follows her. In this temple Perumal does not cross the Vadakku vasal on Vaikunda Ekadasi. Nachiyar will cross the vadakku vasal on Ekadasi in the month of Masi.
The temple is believed to have been built by the Medieval Cholas of the late 8th century AD, with later contributions from later Pandyas, Vijayanagar kings and Madurai Nayaks.
Azhagiya Manavalan is believed to have appeared to Kamalavalli, the daughter of Chola king Nanda Cholan, in this place to marry her. The temple is believed to be the birthplace of Thiruppaan Alvar.
