Malaikottai Uchipillayar Temple , Trichy, Tamilnadu
Rock Fort is situated in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. Rock Fort is also fondly called as Malaikottai in Tamil. This Malaikottai have 3 Temples and 2 Rock cut caves. At the basement "Manicka Vinayagar Temple" is there. At the center of malaikottai "Thayumanavar Swamy temple " is there. At the top of malaikottai Ucchi Pillayar temple". On the way to Uchi pillayar temple from Thayumanavar temple we can see 'Pallava Rock curt cave" is there.
This Temples are first built by Pallavas, Cholas and Pandiyas Kings. Nayaks of Madurai who completed both the temples under the Vijayanagara empire.
In Ramayana war, the moral and truth-abiding brother of Ravana, Vibishana(who ruled SriLanka who ruled SriLanka) aids Rama in his battle against his brother. Ultimately Rama wins the war, he gifts Vibishana an Idol of Lord Ranganatha, a form of Vishnu. Vibhishana, while on his back to his Kingdom, goes through Trichi, and wanted to take his bath in the river Kaveri and do his daily rituals. Vibishana tries to find someone to hold the idol while he was taking bath and finds the Lord Vianayaka under disguise of a cowherd boy. Vinayaka takes the statues and keeps it firmly in sand, in the banks of kaveri. On seeing this, the angry Vibhishana chases the boy, to punish him, and boy keeps running and climbs over the rock near the Kaveri bank. Vibhishana finally reaches the boy and hits him on the fore-head of little boy who then reveals himself to be Vinayaga. Vibishana immediately apoligizes and the Lord gives him his blessings and sends him off to Lanka.
History of Thayumanaswamy temple:
A pregnant woman named Rathnavathi is nearing labor and she suffers in pain as her mother who is to help her has not yet arrived. The pregnant women suffers alone and pleads to God. Then Lord shiva takes the form of her mother and helps her in the pregnancy. Thus, the Lord was praised as "Thayum Ana Swamy".
