Virupaksha Devalaya | Iswara Temple, kolar , Karnataka
This ancient temple is situated in Close to Mulbagal, Kolar, Karnataka. Built during Vijayanagara reign by the Krishnadevaraya . The main sanctum has two Lingams. One is Aatma Linga which is changing Red-White-Golden thrice a day and It also has some very powerful vibes that you can feel getting strong in Morning and Evenings. This lingam is one of the Two Shiva Atma Linga in India(Other one being Kantheshwara in Mangalore). In same sanctum another one Linga is Markatharshiswara Linga which is established by Subtharishi Atri. There are some newly built and renovated subshrines around the main. Shree Bahalmukhi goddess, Behind gana pathi temple and adhi shesha. Nava graha is also there. Lord Nandi is facing main deities.
History of Virupaksha Devalaya: In this place before temple built, Markatharsh Iswara Linga was established and worshiped by Atri Maharshi. Lord shiva pleasued for his woshiped and gave Atmalinga to Atri Maharshi. So Maharshi worshiped both lingas in same sanctum.
There are sculpted images of several other Gods in the temple and Kannada inscription of 1481.
